With ever-decreasing online attention spans, it is more important than ever to capture your audience’s attention so that you can get your business in front of them. Much of the internet is a shop front for businesses. We all know the importance of having a well-designed website that is both informative and eye catching. Social media sites are the channels through which you can reach and market to your audience, but a similar theory should apply; it should be both informative and eye catching.

If you’re struggling for ways to make your business visual, a good place to start is Pinterest. This is because you don’t have to generate your own content to build up a visual picture of what you and your business are about.

Pinterest is essentially an online scrapbook where people can collect images onto specific boards from all over the internet and from other Pinterest users. It has focused search functions which allow you to find content based on interests and is an open site so content is easily accessible.

So what does this mean? Well, let’s say you want to make your business more visual and would like to show people the kind of things that inspire you. You could set up an account in your business name, create a board called Inspiration and start searching and pinning for images that inspire you. You could also use the boards for things that your customers may find useful. For example if you are a recruitment consultant you could have a board for office spaces, office fashion, motivational quotes and more.

The beauty of it is that you don’t need to take those photos yourself, you can build them up from other users. Of course, it is always a good idea to try to get some of your own content and link it back to your website but there is an option to include your URL in your account, so anyone who enjoys your Pinterest and wants to find out more can get to your website.

Pinterest is a great springboard into making your business visual, particularly if you don’t have the time or expertise to generate visual content yourself. Look at similar boards to find out how others are using Pinterest and get inspired to get visual!
