There have been some weird and wonderful occurrences in the world of social media this week. Have you ever heard of a patient jamming on his guitar whilst having a brain tumour removed? Complete madness it seems, and yet Anthony Kulkamp Dias made it a reality this week as a YouTube video of his surgery went viral on social media.
Dias’s surgical team in Brazil allowed him to jam on his guitar in order to keep him awake during the procedure. This allowed doctors to better map his brain activity and reduce any risk of damage. Dias, the Brazilian-born 33-year-old, played The Beatles’ “Yesterday” along with a heart-warming song he wrote for his newly born son.
This phenomenon really does put the “theatre” in operating theatres, and it demonstrates the importance of video content in telling stories – after all, videos are shared a huge 1200% more than links and text combined. Seeing is believing, and if you haven’t seen this incredible video yet (where have you been?) then take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fIXNA_lT30
Keeping with the visual theme, Google has just introduced Google Photos – a new, standalone product designed to home all of your photos and videos, and to help you share and save your best moments.
Google Photos cleverly organises your memories into categories such as People, Places and Things That Matter Most. It also allows you to instantly find a particular photo with its simple and intuitive search tool. Google Photos also takes media storage a step further with its own editing capacity.
With one tap, photos can be enhanced and colour, lighting and subject can be instantly adjusted. If that isn’t impressive enough, you can also press the “+” button to create collages, animation movies with soundtracks and much more. It’s a bit of a Flickr – Photoshop – Dropbox super-hybrid!
Finally, Twitter has introduced some awesome audience insights. We’re really excited about this one: the insights are now available to all Twitter advertisers and analytics users and they make it much easier to discover valuable demographics about the followers and users who have engaged with your organic tweets.
You can also identify new, relevant audiences to target for an upcoming campaign. Twitter has often been on the back-foot when it comes to tailoring marketing and targeting audiences, so we’re really excited about the potential of these insights. It’s simple: the more you know about your audience, the better your marketing becomes. It’s a win-win for social media marketing!
