Hi, my name is Sean and I’m 16, nearly 17 years old; I’m here at Shake Social as a work experience.
I’m currently studying Film, Music and History at Nottingham Academy 6th form, nearing the end of my first year. The courses I’m doing are really fun! I’m loving the creative aspect of music, studying films of all genres and styles. We are currently learning about Russian history from the late 19th century which is a topic I’ve never really looked into myself.
Social Media has always been a huge part of my life. Like every kid, I wanted to create my own social media account as soon as I was allowed to; it was a direct consequence of my interest in computers. My dad owned many gaming consoles in the past and having older siblings that also loved to play classic games, I was hooked.
It was when I first started using a computer that I began to get familiar with technology. It was really easy for me to grasp and now I know a fair bit about computers, having got a brand new custom built one for Christmas. With this interest in technology, I began to create a social media account for everything and followed some of my favourite celebrities and online personalities. Throughout my courses I have explored, and was fascinated by, the impact social media has had on certain things, for example, on society and how that affects musicians.
With Shake Social I’m hoping to expand my knowledge even further and get to know the ins and outs of social media and how businesses use it to their benefit. Since my dad is starting a business of his own. In social media, I see the perfect opportunity for businesses to change and adapt. A work experience at Shake Social will allow me to see the effect social media has on a local scale, close to my own home.
In my spare time, I like to indulge in a few things. As mentioned previously, I like to play video games and have been brought up around them. I play a wide range and I’m not afraid to play old classics. I love the way that the medium has evolved over time and has slowly been taken more seriously.
I also play guitar. I’ve been playing since year 7 and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I own a total of 9 guitars (many are second hand and haven’t been used in a long time, I have 3 I actively play). Occasionally I play in a band called Noise Architect with my friends from 6th form. We’ve had many fun gigs; recently we played at a gala dinner night for many huge businesses as part of a Business In The Community awards ceremony in the East Midlands, in front of executives from companies such as Boots and Toyota. At the minute, performing is simply a hobby but I would love to get paid for it in the future.
As you’ve probably understood, I love anything technology based!
