Hello, I’m Paula, a recent Sociology graduate from the University of Nottingham. As my degree choice might indicate, I have a particular interest in the manner in which society operates and the addressing of social issues. In recent times, social media has swiftly become a reliable source for world news and entertainment, with stories on world issues possessing the potential to go viral within a matter of minutes. This aspect of social media never ceases to amaze me and has furthered my interest in understanding the inner workings more – there is probably no better place for such discovery than with an internship at a social media agency such as Shake Social.

Having grown up with Tom from MySpace gracing my computer screen countless times a day and the AOL dial-up page popping up more often than I care to remember, I am no stranger to the benefits of social media platforms for personal use. However, as we continue to move into an age where businesses are making their presence felt on places like the Twittersphere, it is fascinating to see the way in which businesses, organisations, charities and even schools are creatively using digital media to further brand awareness and increase their scope. Harnessing the power of social media and funneling it to benefit your business is quite frankly a skill and something I hope to possess a greater knowledge of after the completion of my time at Shake.

As well as gain more knowledge on the methods of social media marketing, I also hope to pin down my interests to a well-fitting role within the digital media industry. I enjoy blogging and definitely would like to utilize digital media within any job role I take on so I look forward to understanding the career prospects available to me.
