There are lots of great campaigns worthy of our support, both locally, nationally and internationally, but this one caught my attention on a recent visit to BBC Radio Nottingham.
During the 100th anniversary of World War I, BBC Radio Nottingham wants you to get knitting or crocheting poppies – 11,000 poppies to mark each of the people from Nottinghamshire who died during the conflict. Whether you knit one or one hundred poppies, you will be commemorating those who lost their lives in WWI. The wreath shown above was subsequently sent to Belgium in honour of the fallen men from Nottinghamshire. You can get involved too by looking on their Facebook page for patterns and further details. The poppies will be donated to the Poppy Appeal and the deadline is 22nd October 2014. They’ve already got over 20,000 poppies and counting – amazing!
There’s also an event at the Framework Knitters’ Museum on the 11th October:
And finally, they have a hashtag you can use on Twitter to share your poppies and stories too: #bigpoppyknit
