Shake Social is excited to introduce its newest Summer Intern, Emily!
Hi there! I am very excited to be starting my Internship at Shake Social. Currently studying Decorative Arts at Nottingham Trent University I hope this opportunity will help me to gain work experience within the creative industries. The Course explores a range of materials, I specialise in Ceramics and Embroidery and enjoy creating rich textured surfaces that celebrate natural forms.
For me social media is a great way to keep up with friends and family who may be spread far and wide. Having family far away can sometimes be hard and the accessibility that social media provides can help bridge the distance. For me personally, I can relate to this having family in France. We can easily share photos and messages and it is lovely to feel like we are not so far away after all. Furthermore I think social media can help to link businesses and allows an opportunity to communicate with customers like never before. Businesses have the chance to give customers exclusive information and updates. As social media is such a common resource for most people it is an essential marketing tool for any modern business.
Being a very visual person I would say that Instagram is one of my favourite platforms for social media. The simplicity of sharing just a photo with a caption is great.
My other work experiences have been varied including participating in a voluntary University program ‘Articulate’. This student led program provides monthly Arts and Crafts sessions for children who have suffered bereavement. I aim to continue this in my final year at University and am exploring different avenues for my enjoyment of creativity. Working at a children’s craft studio for 2 years provided me with a valuable experience working within a small creative business.
After I have completed my degree I aim to utilise my creativity within my career. I am interested in the prospect of managing events that bring together local businesses and allow communities to celebrate them. I feel Nottingham shares this same value for promoting local businesses and has a thriving creative quarter, something I am excited to get involved in.
