Two Brands That Are Nailing Instagram

Instagram can be a tricky platform for many businesses. If you’re marketing a product, it can be a challenge presenting it in visually interesting ways. If you’re selling a service, working out how to show it off in visual form can be a headache.

With that in mind, here are two mini case studies with some great lessons you can take away for your business– whatever your audience.

B2C: Oreo

This biscuit brand’s engagement on Instagram is phenomenal. Yes, that’s partly due to their clout as a big brand– but it’s also down to the incredible content they generate.

Their posts showcase a single product in a huge variety of clever ways, showing you just how creative it’s possible to be when you’re promoting a product on Instagram. If you look at their posts, you see that they fall into a few different ‘types’: images of people with Oreos for heads, creative designs featuring the biscuits, and recipe suggestions all feature. This clever rotation of different elements keeps the page consistent, while managing to avoid boring their fans.

B2B: Hootsuite

It’s no surprise that a company whose services revolve around social media have a strong online presence. Hootsuite’s software definitely wouldn’t make the most engaging Instagram posts, so instead their profile showcases their workplace culture and emphasises the presence of the Hootsuite mascot, Owly.

This is a clever way of building a brand persona– both humanising your company by showing off the friendly, good-humoured side of your employees and building a strong brand by reinforcing recognition of your logo, or even by subtly suggesting it– note the owl feathers in on the wall in the image below.

There are some good takeaways here for any brands– keeping content interesting is key to maintaining a following on Instagram, and your posts need to be strongly branded to encourage brand loyalty and recognition.
