Christmas lunch is over, the fire is crackling merrily in the grate, turkey stuffed relatives are nodding off to the Queen’s speech, and with a slightly giddy head from all the bubbly you think you had better tweet because you haven’t all day. Stop. Put the laptop down. Enjoy Christmas.

We all need a break and that includes from social media. You don’t want to be worrying about what’s happening online when you’re trying to enjoy the festive season with family and friends. So to ensure you and your social media get the most out of Christmas we’ve put together a list of a few things to think about before breaking up for Christmas.

1)     How long is your business closed for over Christmas? That’s how long you’re having a break for. If you’re business isn’t open how are you meant to service any new customers that get in touch?

closed

2)     Make sure people know what’s going on. Put your opening hours up on your website, if necessary create an emergency contact for people to reach you on.

3)     Scale back on the monitoring. People may still get in touch with you over the festive period, so make sure you do check your accounts occasionally.

4)     Don’t stop activity all together. Schedule a few select posts to go out after Boxing Day so the accounts still have some movement on them.

5)     Be clear beforehand as to when you will and won’t be online. That way people know when you will be available if they need you.

6)     Enjoy your Christmas break!
