“I was delighted that Kate from Shake Social came on board with the campaign early on as her input and commitment was vital. I have learned so much about social media in the past few weeks and now realise how important it is to get the right expert advice. Thanks for everything Kate, a true pleasure to work with you.” – Tony Bates
So it’s official – Nottingham rocks! May 29th saw thousands of people locally, nationally and even globally come together to tell the world everything that’s great about the city. And it worked! Weeks of tweeting, galvanising support, increasing followers and researching Twitter’s algorithm all paid off when #Nottinghamrocks – the hashtag we created for the Get Nottingham Trending campaign – became the number one trending topic on Twitter in the UK and number three worldwide. We’re still buzzing!
Starting with an idle tweet from local businessman Tony Bates (@babblingbates), the Get Nottingham Trending campaign quickly morphed into something much bigger. Proud to be a Nottingham based business and firm believers in the power of Twitter, we teamed up with Tony early on. Knowing that #Nottingham would never trend because it’s too widely used anyway, we helped deliver a strategy that built up followers, generated new content, created anticipation and finally unleashed a new hashtag on the day that took Twitter by storm.
With almost 16,000 tweets on the day itself using the hashtag #Nottinghamrocks, the word Nottingham also saw a rise in use. Typically mentioned around 3,000 times on any given day this was more than doubled on Tuesday. Having such a social spotlight on our fine city is not to be under-estimated. We’ll continue to work hard with Tony and the rest of #teamtrend to galvanise the positivity Nottingham brings with the upcoming Festival of Nottingham. Can’t wait!
