We’re all secretly thinking it; getting to All-Star status on LinkedIn is something we would love, but we all use that excuse of, ‘I just don’t have the time’. Well, never fear, we have 7 all-star steps to get you to the top!

  1. Your profile picture: First impressions count, right? You wouldn’t turn up to an interview dressed as you would for a night out, so don’t have your picture as you in a bar. Keep those pictures for Facebook, and get a professional photo up asap.

  1. Your Name: Keep nicknames as far away as possible. Make sure you’re professional and identifiable.

  1. Location: Get your location on there: local connections are never to be under-estimated.

  1. Summary: This is the single most read section of anyone’s LinkedIn profile so it needs to pack a punch and get straight to the point. Share your skills, your strengths and your expertise. Demonstrate your successes. Sell yourself.

  1. Job Experience: Get right to the point. State the job title, the tasks you undertook and the skills you brought to the position. You need the last two positions you held at the least to receive All-Star status.

  1. Skills: You need at least three of these to reach All-Star status. If you have a skill, get it down. Don’t hold back. Remember if you don’t choose these, LinkedIn will do it for you – and they’ll get it wrong.

  1. Connections: The real back-bone of a good LinkedIn profile is your network of connections. Work through your email connections and your business cards and don’t forget to personalise your invitations.
