Social media is still a bit of an unknown entity to many and the power of social media can often get underplayed. If you have business accounts on social media then you need to ensure you aren’t making mistakes that could be costing you money and reflecting badly on your business. Have a look at our checklist below:
- “We haven’t updated our social media since 2012.” This is not good. If you’re accounts are live but nothing has gone out on them for a few months or even years, people immediately think you’ve gone out of business. Make sure you’re posting regularly so that people know you’re still going!
- “We schedule content to go out there and never check on the account.” Again, this could be costly to your business for a couple of reasons, the first being that if you never check you’ll never be able to respond to people who engage with your content. Secondly, you’ll never be able to see what people are saying about you and bad customer reviews left unattended can be hugely detrimental
- “We didn’t bother with images.” Having unbranded accounts is a cardinal sin. You need to be using the spaces for headers and profile images to get your company branding across. A bare account makes people think your company isn’t forward thinking or moving with the times and immediately puts them off, affecting the sales funnel.
- “We just write about what we’re up to today.” That’s fine but you need to be maximising your content, including links to your website, hashtags, mentions and so on to get the conversation going! Remember – likes and followers on social media don’t belong to you, they belong to the social media site, so you need to encourage them to come to your website and to capture an email address from them.
- “We didn’t really know what we were doing when we set it up.” Get someone in the know to check. If you’ve set up a Facebook account incorrectly (as a person rather than a business) Facebook can delete it. Equally, making sure all the right information is available to the viewer is crucial to helping people understand what you do and to getting those sales!
